Who are the Farmington Area Jaycees?
The Farmington Area Jaycees, part of the Michigan Junior Chamber and Junior Chamber International (JCI), is an internationally recognized leadership organization that prides itself on building leaders through professional and personal development, community service and government and civic activities. Our members are between the ages of 21 and 40 and are considered the up-in-coming leaders within the community. The Farmington Area Jaycees was established in 1942 and is one of the oldest chapters in the Michigan Jaycees. Throughout the years, the Farmington Area Jaycees have worked closely with local city governments to prepare the leaders of today become the leaders of tomorrow. Many of the city council members in both Farmington and Farmington Hills, as well as local business owners, teachers, and active community members began their ladder of leadership in the Jaycees. Countless hours of community service have helped area organizations such as The Governor Warner Mansion, the YMCA Strong Kids Program, Gleaners Community Food Bank and Community Living Centers grow financially. The Farmington Area Jaycees hold many signature projects throughout the year. Our largest event, the Spring Egg Hunt, which started with a mere 100 participants, has grown to over 600 participants in the year 2012. Our success has given us the opportunity to partner with local charities like Gleaners Community Food Bank, in efforts to support the charitable activities that they conduct on a daily basis. The annual Holiday Tree Lighting, held for over 27 years, brings together city council members, local residents and even a guest from the North Pole to celebrate the start of a wonderful holiday season. Paired with the Toys-for-Tots Program, the Farmington Area Jaycees have donated over 100 gifts per year to this organization. The success of these events have paved the way for our newest signature event, held in October, the Pumpkin Porch Party. The Farmington Area Jaycees create a family friendly atmosphere where parents can help their children carve pumpkins, play games and participate in various arts and crafts activities. This organization offers a chance to develop and utilize skills that can assist in career advancement and personal growth. Through projects and social events, lifetime friendships are developed.
